Mineral Carbonation of Alkaline Waste Materials
The uptake of CO2 by alkaline waste materials is an emerging issue both with respect to the mitigation of contaminant leaching and CO2 storage. The prior is primarily related to the pH-effect of CO2-uptake while the latter focusses on the neo-formation of solid phase constituents that serve as a CO2 sink. Both aspects feed back into the ecological footprint of the waste materials themselves in disposal and re-use scenarios. The session aims at bridging the aforementioned aspects and seeks to explore synergies and future research strategies.
